This is a personal interior project of Sofia Petrova, a stylish architect based in Sofia, Bulgaria. The whole project is about an office space in engineering company in the field of electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems – “Aymek Egineering”. The premise is located around the top floor of new building in downtown Sofia. The total area of office is 210 m ². It consists of 5 main work areas, reception, executive offices, staff area, reception and meeting room.

The reception floor is adjacent to the waiting area and the transition between them is defined with no doors but with a difference in the treatment of floors, walls, ceiling and 15 cm displacement of the floor levels. In the vicinity of the waiting area is the kitchen, decorated with sliding doors and doors with blankets leading to a conference room  from the managers space. This managers are sitting in separate rooms with doors, windows and different way of treatment of floors, walls and ceilings.

The floor areas for staff, reception, meeting room, communications and service areas have self-leveling cement interior surface with a transparent polyurethane frames. The ceiling in those areas is treated and sealed concrete slab, left with its natural look. In the common area are two “wooden boxes” (executive offices and reception area), whose floor is raised by the overall level of 15 cm and is covered with wood parquet. The walls and ceiling are veneered MDF, identical in color and flader with parquet.

Built-in cabinets with records and office equipment in the work area and kitchen are made from MDF white gloss. Central volume, where the elevator, toilets and built cabinet are lined with chipboard decoration of the drawings. The reception covered with black and white MDF plinth and a high solid processed gray plaster, which are extension of the concrete floors and all columns are lined with sheets of black steel.

Lighting in the office is divided into two main groups-functional and accent. Functional lighting provides adequate lighting for work. Elected bodies are distant from the ceiling in each of the working areas. They are hanging, wall mounted or free standing type (floor or the tables), creating a direct and indirect lighting with a warm spectrum of lights. The hulls of lights are in white, gray or black.

Accent lighting highlights and makes more active some of the key elements in the interior. It is embedded in the paneling of the ceiling (with flashlights “washing” effect) and is directed to the walls with paneling. Accent lighting also features LED amber line hidden in the groove, which highlights the curtains in the offices of managers and outline the boxes of the upper cabinet in the kitchen.

Having in mind the main action of the company, the architect leaves all installations on the ceiling visible (except VRV coils, which are built in cabinets). This underlines the spirit of engineering office, the precision of the occupation. The idea passes as a leading thread in the overall decision of the colors and textures, creating an achromatic background. Green color emphasis in this gray-white-black environment giving, a texture of soft and cozy effect of long white curtains. Overall the architect looks for the dynamic contrast between both ends – black and white, hot and cold, chromatic and achromatic, elements of industrial design combined with ELEMENTS from the comfort of home.
